TONGUES IN TREES
a site-specific sound installation
5’ x 26’ x 15’
bamboo, screen, audio
2003
The visual, physical structure of this work mimics the contours of a
stringed instrument, enlarged to architectural proportion. Spiraling
around four conifers the structure makes paths and pockets to be
explored. The scent of the trees is contained and the interior provides
a private respite. A solar powered binaural sound composition is heard
from the interior of the work – voices whisper fragmented
vocal patterns to recite a mnemonic topology of the site.
