Graduate
Seminar - Praxis
During the summer sessions of 2004 and 2008 I taught the graduate studio portion of the MFA Visual Studies Low Residency program at MECA. Students worked independently on self-focused projects. The seminar met weekly for lectures, presentations, demonstrations, and field trips. The activities of this course served to provide contemporary and historical context for the range of visiting artists coming through the program and to assist each student in gaining an understanding of the context of his/her own work. The final project of the seminar required each student to design a dream exhibition. Chosing the site for the exhibit, which included his/her own work, each student curated a group show of influences and aspirations. This culminated in writing a press release and making a formal presentation to classmates. These exist as keynote presentations, which I am happy to share with the committee upon request.
